Chinese Computing Cyberport 中文電腦數碼港 Work strategically 謀略致勝 Dr. Charles Tang 鄧文榮博士 (in BIG-5 encode) Dr. Tang has joined the Computing Department at the Kwai Chung campus since 1997. In his early 50s, Charles enjoys life since birth and is quite optimistic, so he called himself "Charlie the Happy". He had got diploma in sociology, psychology and French; and worked as editor in various newspaper and magazines. While returning from Canada to work after his first degree in business computing (with strengths in math and science too), as sales engineer and computer teacher, Charles completed his master in management science researching on Chinese computing. He transferred the knowledge to students of various extramural courses at HKU, CUHK and OUHK. Charles does not stop his desire to seek for knowledge, even after getting his doctoral degree in strategic management. He has the passion to integrate IT with various disciplines, including management, languages, music and art design. Charles was the production supervisor for both the weekly issuing Hong Kong Credit Monitor at Database (HK) in the late 70s, and the annual publication Hong Kong Computer Directory at the HK Productivity Council before serving VTC. He is keen on student activities because he had been student leaders at different colleges and universities. Charles tries his best to contact the industry to provide placement for the students. Currently, Charles is studying computerized translation at CUHK in master level, with his interest in languages, especially in Chinese/Mandarin, English and French. My VISION The world would be smaller and smaller due to speedy communication channels and transportation. Whatever we act would affect the rest of the world, and reactions come bouncing immediately. Yet, human beings are not wiser with information facilities and other technological advancement. Our global earth might be ruined by us since more and more people turn to be eccentric and non-contributive. HONG KONG IS NOT YET COMPUTERIZED ========================================= Hong Kong seems to be an advanced metropolitan, nearly every business sectors and industries are employing computer in their processes; yet Hong Kong is actually not a real computerized society. The main problem is, most of the Hong Kong citizens do not really understand the meaning of "computerization", and those using computer systems are mostly having no fundamental concepts in computing. On the other hand, though all bosses are proud of utilizing computers in their business, they do no realize that most of their computer resources are wasted. Besides, the computer vendors try their very best to sell their computer products and services without sincerely considering the interest of their customers, and they neglect the professional ethics in computing. In addition, almost all pupils of primary and secondary levels take the computer as an equivalent to video games... to mention a few. We have to correct these ridiculous practices! If every citizen is well-equipped with computer concepts, Hong Kong can then be called a computerized community.
